I'M from the Republic
I'm from the Republic
Not the Republic of love, but the Republic of crime and freedom
free to commit the crimes that makes you smile.
free to forget those slavery times that your family begs to forget, but you want to remember.
They call me SAINTS(Santos) just cause I'm from Santos Domingo.
Yes.... I HAVE A TITTLE
A tittle for the color of my skin and those curls on my hair.
They gave me a tittle for my thick accent and those roots that run through my blood.
they forgot that i have a voice
THE VOICE OF A REPUBLIC with the knowledge of an American citizen.
A CITIZEN willing to give
A Dominican willing to forgive .

Dream-LandBY EDGAR ALLAN POE
By a route obscure and lonely,
Haunted by ill angels only,
Where an Eidolon, named NIGHT,
On a black throne reigns upright,
I have reached these lands but newly
From an ultimate dim Thule--
From a wild weird clime that lieth, sublime,
Out of SPACE—Out of TIME.
Bottomless vales and boundless floods,
From this ultimate dim Thule.Source: The Complete Poems

Artist Inspiration Connection
Paul Calhoun’s project, After the War, Paul Calhoun worked withhis son, Ben Calhoun, who is a journalist, to learn and capture thestories from war veterans and their families. The father son duodiscovered some captivating stories and captured some incredible photographers. As a documentary photographer Paul Calhoun travels and talks to people to learn more about what they have gone through. In the photo on the left Paul Calhoun said that he was talking to these menwhen all of a sudden he saw the man facing forward begin to cryand hug his friend. That was when Paul Calhoun knew he needed totake this photo and that is all it was, was one single photograph.Once he took time to look at it later Paul Calhoun explained thatthere was so much more to this photo than just a hug and sometears. These men were mourning a veteran’s death, who was a lovedone.
my work was base of Photography in the Dominican Republic La Ramona, Sancarlos. "I'm From the Republic" is base on everyday life in my home town . The artist that i used for my inspiration Paul Calhoun because he did something similar with his work. He focused his on everyday life all around the world . |
Edgar Allan Poe was the first poet that read when I was in 8th grade I always felt so connected with him because he uses a lot of emotions and darkness In his work . There is a lots of Literary devices in his poems which in my opinion adds a deeper meaning into the his work.
I wanted to present my home land with beauty but at the same time that beauty will cause many of us pain. Because the beauty of my country reflect my reality. which I cover-up with literary devices to make them sound less painful to me and the reader. my home land is like an ill angel because there is a lot to see but some how we only focus on the beautiful island we forget about those who we have left behind. The poor community matter the most to me because that is were i come from, there in the border of Haiti and the republic was where i was race . living two cultures exception almost nothing because of the way that i was raced. i was once was a little girl that did not had a dream. But now that i came to the U.S.A i see the wold differently. Now I'm free to dream and accomplish my goals without barriers. I do not see limitations. i wanted to represent my country with our reality. are everyday life . i wanted to show that this 3rd world island has more than poor people. we don't cry every day because the we might not have a lot but is more than enough to make us smile and live life like there is no other day. |
